The Diva has something for you think about this week…. What influences your style? Better question: Who influences your style? I was driving to pick up my son from school yesterday and I was taking in my surroundings … . From the sky to the landscape I thought about how much the things around us, more importantly the people around us influence how we look. We hear designers talk about how they get their inspirations to design their collections, whether it is from a person, place or a thing….Well it is the same for us….Something as simple as ….. How you look when you go on an interview, is determined by other people, or a system rather. When you go different places in everyday life, how much of your style is influenced by the people that are going to be there and what they might think instead of your own opinion? This is something that a lot us might not even be aware of and or take for granted that we do.
C’mon ladies how many times have you changed the way you dress for that guy you liked? Or dressing like that celebrity you idolize…. Let’s face it we all have been guilty of this, I know I have, and I was miserable being something for someone else. I remember going to my son’s school (a very conservative Christian School), no makeup, and plain clothing attire. For all those that know me, you know there is nothing plain about me!!! I had on a very large dramatic pair of earrings…I thought I should take them off because it would draw too much attention, I took one off and then thought “Hey, this is me, I am not apologetic for who I am and the style I represent” so I put it back on. We have so many influences around us, society, media, art, lifestyle, even those closest to us….It’s important to make sure we reflect who we are and not someone else….So if have you ever been told you should wear your hair a certain way or that you should dress differently (and I have) it makes you feel like an animal that is being caged. I don’t know about you, but I have a fashionable spirit that desires to be creative and unleashed at all times!!! Our style is so much a part of us, more than you can imagine so when society sees you make sure it is YOUR unique style that is being represented. In the beginning and at the end of the day I can only display my style.... and not how you want me to be…. Diva Dell
